9 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home

We love January and the start of a new year because it is the perfect time to refresh — your routines, your intentions, and your home! Although refreshing your home can initially seem like a large undertaking, with a few easy updates, you can change the whole feel of your home.

1. Go Green

We love to bring life into a space by simply adding some greenery. If you live in a warmer climate or are looking for something low-maintenance, we recommend succulents or cacti. If you love color, try rotating seasonal fresh cut flowers. And to fill larger spaces, spruce up a room with a fiddle leaf fig tree in a hand-woven planter.

2. Set the Table

This year, we’re trying to cook and entertain at home more often. Be ready for an impromptu family and friend gathering or a dinner date by having casual place settings on hand that can make a normal meal feel a little more special (without the stress of setting up a formal tablescape).

3. Throw Something New into the Mix

Swapping a new throw blanket is a great way to complete the look of a room. Our favorite way to style a throw is to pair neutral linens with a unique pop — like our beautiful kantha quilts, serapes, or throws. When picking a throw, choose a piece that incorporates your existing color scheme or make a statement with a vibrant color.

4. Get Comfy

Another great way to transform a space is by switching out pillows. If pairing with a bolder throw, try more neutral pillows. We also love pillows that can make a corner pop — try an ikat pattern, indigo mudcloth print, or tenango embroidery.

5. Clear the Clutter

As hard as it can be to set aside time, a quick “inventory check” is a great way to self-reflect and see what items you are actually using. Clear out (and donate!) any items you’re not using and your future self will thank you. Next, stylishly store the things you love. It’s cliché, but every item should have a home. A simple and chic way to do this is with baskets. For miscellaneous items like mail and keys, we suggest a “catch-all” basket (and sorting through it regularly).

6. Get Productive

We always do our best work when our space is organized and inspiring. Try to clear out any non-essential items and store the things you do need somewhere easily accessible. We prefer to keep office supplies in drawers or chic boxes so that we can make room for things we do want to see on our desks — like a candle or photo.

7. Personalize Your Space

Make your home feel personal by sharing your favorite photos and candles on a desk — or shelf. For a cohesive look, try selecting frames with similar color scheme so that the photos can be the center of attention.

8. Fill the Air with a Fresh Scent

A nice scent is one of our favorite ways to make our time at home even sweeter. Remind yourself of what’s in season with a scented candle. Some of our favorites: grapefruit in winter, gardenia during spring, sangria for summer, and apple cider for fall.

8. Set Your Intention

We love giving ourselves reminders throughout the day. Make your wall space count by spreading positivity!
