This week marks four years since The Little Market was founded to empower artisans around the world. We are very thankful to have you follow along on our journey and are excited to reflect on the past four years with you.

The Little Market is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization created to provide female artisans around the world with meaningful opportunities. Each purchase from our online, fair trade shop contributes to a sustainable income for the artisans as they work hard to create a brighter future for themselves and their families.

When our inspiring founders, Lauren Conrad and Hannah Skvarla, visited Africa in 2012, they met with several nonprofits working with women and children. Taking this experience with them, they began thinking about a way to provide talented, hardworking artisans with a larger audience with whom they could share fair trade, handmade goods without any limit of geography. They felt the need to do something and act on their responsibility to help others. Lauren and Hannah met with experts in the human rights field and, combining their backgrounds in décor, fashion, human rights, and international development, The Little Market was created.

In 2013, The Little Market carried products from eight artisan groups in five countries. Now, The Little Market carries products made by 56 artisans groups in 28 countries.

Since founding in 2013 to now, we have purchased nearly 75,000 units of product. Every product we carry is ethically sourced and artisan-made with fair trade practices. We are proud to be a member of the Fair Trade Federation and to have a member of our team serving on its Board of Directors.

Every product at The Little Market has a story behind it — and with that story is an inspiring artisan who worked hard to create the product. Our partners practice beautiful cultural techniques, from basket weaving to jute braiding to wood carving, to name a few. These techniques are passed down through generations as they preserve a cultural heritage.

We are so honored to work with such inspiring, courageous, and talented artisans. Despite the challenges many of the artisans have faced, they work hard to overcome the hardships and are motivated to create a better future. Several of the groups we work with include individuals who have survived domestic violence, survived sex trafficking, faced gender inequalities, fled violence in their home countries, faced oppression, and experienced extreme poverty.

As we reflect on the past four years and look ahead to the future, we want to take the opportunity to thank those who have helped us along the way.
