To our community,

We are so excited and grateful to celebrate our 7-year anniversary of The Little Market today!

Whether it’s your first time hearing about The Little Market or you’ve been following along for years, we wanted to take a trip down memory lane with you today.

The Little Market is a mission-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are dedicated to providing dignified work to underserved women globally. We ethically purchase handmade goods from artisan groups and social enterprises in the most vulnerable communities. Every order and donation helps to break the cycle of poverty and create a better future for artisans and their families.

How it All Began

The story of The Little Market begins when our co-founders, Lauren Conrad and Hannah Skvarla, were inspired to create a sustainable platform to empower artisan women, connecting the most remote and under-resourced communities with conscious shoppers all around the world.

Lauren and Hannah traveled to Tanzania and Uganda in 2012 to meet with nonprofits and charities supporting women and children on the ground and learn more about the impact they can make. Combining their backgrounds in business, fashion, and human rights, by October 2013, they created The Little Market. They sought out the advice of experts in international development and fair trade. And by the end of the year, The Little Market was ethically sourcing products from eight artisan groups and social enterprises in five countries. Learn more about us and our mission here

Our First Store Opening

In September 2018, we celebrated an incredible milestone by opening up our first brick-and-mortar store in Pacific Palisades, Calif. A physical storefront has presented us with the opportunity to meet with shoppers in person, have another outlet to share the meaningful stories behind these handmade goods, and let shoppers touch and feel each piece. We are so grateful for the opportunities that have come with our first storefront, from meeting so many of you to hosting events in order to raise awareness of human rights and social justice. Dignified Hours

At The Little Market, as a nonprofit social enterprise and fair trade shop, we measure our success in terms of the number of people we are able to support. The more products we ethically purchase and sell, the more people we can reach and impact we can make. We’re thrilled to share that since 2013, we have ethically purchased 304,743 units of product and have surpassed generating 1 million hours of dignified work.1

Fast forward to the present day, and The Little Market is now ethically sourcing products from more than 65 artisan groups and social enterprises in over 25 countries and sovereign states. We have also developed meaningful charity collaborations in support of like-minded organizations. We continue to advocate for human rights and social justice and are thankful for our growing community.
