Based out of India, social enterprise Anchal Project supports essential employment opportunities for women who have been exploited by the commercial sex trade.

Through this work, women have access to skills training, full-time employment opportunities, educational workshops, health services, a safe work environment, and access to a larger marketplace.

Artisans preserve a beautiful hand-stitching kantha technique to create these pieces. The kantha stitch is a simple running stitch that can hold multiple layers of fabric together.

Artisan women combine modern designs with an aggregated stitch pattern, creating beautiful pillowcases, towels, quilts, and beyond. Behind the production of each piece is a team of project assistants overseeing every step. First, 100 percent organic cotton fabric is washed and ironed. A project assistant may panel several pieces together based on the size of the piece. Once she completes the piece, an artisan signs her name on the product tag. For the final touches, a quality check is conducted and the piece is packaged.
