Meet the Team: Latoya Hawthorne-Stiner

Latoya Hawthorne-Stiner {The Little Market}

We are so excited to welcome Latoya Hawthorne-Stiner to our team as our first store manager! Read below to learn more about her story and why she loves working for The Little Market.

How did you hear about The Little Market?

I used to work at Downtown Women’s Center, an organization that works to end homelessness for women in Los Angeles. I worked with the social enterprise team and workforce development. The Little Market became partners with our social enterprise in 2014. The women in the job training programs makes spa products that The Little Market sells!

What is your favorite thing about The Little Market so far?

My favorite thing about The Little Market is the mission. I love that Lauren and Hannah founded this organization, and I love that there’s an educational component to the organization and that it makes people feel good to give back and become more conscious when shopping.

What’s your favorite product in the store and why?

This may be a bit biased, but I love the soaps! They’re made by formerly homeless women in Los Angeles at Downtown Women’s Center. And as a woman with sensitive skin, I’ve used these soaps and I have not needed to change since I started. … My favorite is the coconut scent!

If you had to pick out a gift for your best friend from the store, what would you give her?

Everything is a perfect gift in the store, but we have SO many candles that can be customized with a lovely phrase. So I would go with a candle and a PURPOSEfull TOTE!

What other stores are you loving in the Palisades Village?

I’m very much so obsessed with Vintage Grocers (I’m a huge foodie)! I have yet to explore all the stores … there’s so many! I’m excited to see them all.

What does your dream day look like in Los Angeles?

Real food, vibrant community, authentic conversations with passionate people, live music, the sun, the sand, the ocean — connecting with nature!

How do you feel to be the store manager of the first brick-and-mortar store for The Little Market, and what do you hope to share with customers?

Being the store manager of The Little Market is an absolute dream! My mission in life is to empower women through social entrepreneurship, so it only felt perfect to be a part of the team! I hope to continue to share the mission as well as educating customers about the 66 artisan groups we work with. It’s exciting to see all the products and be able to touch them. Of course customers can read about the artisans online when they’re purchasing, but there’s a special connection when you’re able to see the product in person, the perfect imperfections of each unique item that’s handmade and being able to have someone explain the techniques of each artisan group — it’s quite amazing!

We’re so happy to have you on the team, Latoya! Check back soon for more updates from our team and our first brick-and-mortar store.

Women moves and shakes the market place. Give a woman a dollar and she can make it stretch. Women can maximize and increase any product line, once they’re in love with it.
