At The Little Market, our mission is to support dignified work opportunities for individuals in underserved communities all over the world. By ethically sourcing and purchasing artisan-made goods, we support sustainable income opportunities to help break the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future. A core part of our mission is to raise awareness for women’s rights. All month long, we are recognizing Women’s History Month.
Women’s History Month is a time dedicated to honoring women’s achievements and contributions to history and society. We are so thankful for the strong women who have paved the path for us and for every woman’s contributions to a more just world with equal rights for everyone, regardless of background.
The National Women’s History Alliance has declared this year’s theme as “Valiant Women of the Vote” to recognize the women who advocated for women’s right to vote in the United States. Not only is this an election year in the United States, but it also commemorates the centennial of the 19th Amendment. Women in the United States were granted the right to vote only 100 years ago. Since the ratification of the 19th Amendment, women continued to face voter suppression. Women have the right to choose who represents their communities, advocate for change, and be elected into office.
HOW WE CAN HELP
We can each do our part to honor the women in our lives every day. Here are some ideas below to get started!
- Support women-led organizations.
- Mentor a young girl in your community.
- Advocate for women’s rights and gender equality.
- Share your stories and listen to other women’s stories.
- Encourage your friends and be a voice for fellow women.
- Say thank you to the women who have inspired you and mentored you.
